How Yapa Explorers booked +24% more trips in 30 days by guiding travelers to their best-fit tour
Train or trek? Machu Picchu alone or the whole Sacred Valley? Choosing the right tour is a genuinely complex decision. Here is how a guided journey turned strong intent into confirmed bookings.
One destination, many ways to get there
Yapa Explorers is a Peru-based tour operator specializing in Machu Picchu experiences, from classic train tours to multi-day treks through the Sacred Valley. The company sells directly to independent travelers researching and booking online, competing in a crowded market of agencies offering similar routes at similar price points.
The challenge: strong intent, stalled decisions
Yapa Explorers doesn't have an oversized catalog, but it has enough variation across trips to stall a first-time visitor. Each tour differs by starting point, physical activity level, destinations included, and trip duration, and none of those choices is obviously "correct" for someone unfamiliar with the region. The result was conversion friction driven by a genuinely complex purchase decision, not by a lack of interest.
- Train or hike? Visitors had to decide how to physically reach Machu Picchu before knowing what that choice implied for cost, duration, or fitness level
- Machu Picchu only, or the Sacred Valley too? The scope of each trip wasn't obvious from the homepage, so visitors browsed multiple tour pages trying to piece it together
- How many days can I commit? Trip length is a hard constraint for most travelers, but the site wasn't filtering options by it early in the journey
- Self-navigation replaced guidance. Visitors were left to compare tour pages manually, and many simply left to keep researching elsewhere

For the marketing team, this was a familiar dilemma: strong intent and real budget to spend, but no adaptive journey to match each traveler's logistics to the right product. Yapa needed a way to route indecisive visitors to their best-fit tour without redesigning the site or increasing spend on traffic acquisition.
The solution: a guided journey to the right tour
Yapa Explorers needed more than a better way to display its tours. It needed a way to guide first-time visitors through a naturally complex decision. Pathmonk added that guidance layer on top of the existing website: no redesign, no rebuilt catalog, no extra traffic spend.
Product Selector
A guided experience closer to speaking with a travel consultant. It asked what mattered most: train or hike, days available, the kind of experience wanted, extra landmarks. Each answer narrowed the path and routed the visitor to their best-fit itinerary, weighting recommendations toward tours with stronger conversion potential and commercial value without losing sight of the traveler's own preferences.
Guided discoverySmart routingIntent-based microexperiences
Deployed across the site and adapting to each stage of the journey: value and trust content for early explorers, a more direct path into the selector and reservation flow for high-intent visitors. Full Image Micro Experiences added full-size photos and video for an editorial travel feel that matched the destination itself.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated revenue pixel tracked completed bookings and captured the exact value of each purchase, connecting revenue back to the guided journey instead of relying on rough estimates.
Setup ran through GTM in minutes with no dev dependency, fully cookieless, backed by a money-back guarantee if the exposed traffic didn't deliver at least a 20% uplift.
The results: measured booking by booking
Yapa Explorers followed Pathmonk's recommended A/B setup: a straightforward 50/50 split where half of the traffic experienced the standard website and half was guided through the Product Selector and microexperiences. Both groups received the same traffic, from the same sources, over the same four-week window, so the difference in performance is attributable to the on-site experience itself rather than seasonality, campaign shifts, or changes in traffic quality.
In 30 days, the Pathmonk-enabled segment booked 24% more trips and delivered a +10.55% revenue uplift: 29 incremental bookings worth $12,335 in incremental revenue, tracked precisely through the revenue pixel rather than estimated.
Impact per funnel stage, Pathmonk group vs. control group, over the four-week window.
The gap between the booking uplift and the revenue uplift tells its own story: the Product Selector unlocked bookings from travelers who would otherwise have left to keep researching, many of them entering through Yapa's more accessible tours. Revenue per visitor still climbed by $4.27, and every incremental dollar was measured, not modeled.
What's next: rolling out across the portfolio
Yapa Explorers is part of a wider travel portfolio, and the 30-day pilot now serves as the playbook. The next step is implementing Pathmonk on the portfolio's other websites, giving each one its own guided journey: a Product Selector tuned to its destinations, microexperiences matched to its travelers, and the same revenue-pixel attribution to prove the uplift site by site.
Pathmonk turned our static website into a dynamic experience. Their AI personalizes the journey for every visitor, and conversions improve quickly. It feels like a natural extension of our own team.
