All right, everyone, welcome to today’s episode of Pathmonk Presents. Today we are joined by Anita Glover from Select Technology. Anita is a marketing manager at Select Technology. Anita, welcome to the show.
Anita Glover: Happy May!
Rick: Of course.
I’d love to get right into it and talk about Select Technology. I know you’re an IT company, but I’d like to hear it from you so our audience gets the full picture. In your own words, what’s the heart of what Select Technology does?
Anita: Select Technology is a family business that’s been running for 30 years.
We provide IT support for small and medium-sized enterprises—businesses that might have no IT function in-house or just a small IT team that needs extra support.
We also offer bespoke cybersecurity consultancy, along with AI and automation consultancy.
Rick: That must keep you busy, especially in the last few years.
Anita: You’re absolutely spot on.
We reframed and repositioned our AI and automation services last summer, and since then, we’ve been incredibly busy. Everyone wants to talk about AI—how they can use it, what the pitfalls are, and how automation can help their business. It’s been non-stop!
Rick: I can only imagine. People are always looking for ways to be more efficient and save costs.
If a company has an in-house IT department, they might be okay, but I assume some still need outside help. Are there any specific industries you serve best?
Anita: We work across multiple industries.
Where we’re based—in Kent, in the southeast of England—is known as the Garden of England, which means we have a lot of agricultural businesses. We support many growers, farmers, and food production companies.
These businesses need 24/7 IT support. Whether it’s monitoring plant growth, packing operations, or logistics, they can’t afford downtime. That’s where we come in.
Beyond that, we serve the construction industry and professional services like architects, accountants, and lawyers. We’re also seeing growth in the nonprofit sector, having recently onboarded several charities.
Rick: That’s great—supporting local businesses and now charities too!
Is there a core problem that you solve across all these industries?
Anita: I think the biggest challenge in tech is simply keeping up.
Even if a company has an IT team, the pace of change in technology is overwhelming. Best practices are constantly evolving, and there’s always something new to consider.
For small teams, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to handle it all. That’s where we step in—offering expertise and extra hands to ensure smooth digital transformation, automation, and security.
Risk is another big factor. If your systems go down, your business grinds to a halt. We provide proactive monitoring, so we often fix issues before our clients even realize something was wrong. That peace of mind is a huge part of the value we bring.
Rick: That makes sense.
Let’s say I’m a business owner—maybe in agriculture or professional services—and I’m looking for an IT partner. How would I typically find Select Technology?
Anita: We have a strong online presence—our website, LinkedIn, and social media all help people find us.
But honestly, word of mouth is huge for us. Business leaders talk to each other, and we get many referrals from happy clients.
We’re also increasing our visibility at events. Tech companies can sometimes feel distant, so we’re making an effort to be more present at expos, networking events, and webinars—anywhere we can have meaningful conversations and share our expertise.
Rick: Good old word-of-mouth referrals! But also in-person events, which I think is great.
You touched on your website—what role does it play in attracting clients?
Anita: It’s critical.
We get a lot of inbound leads through the website—people filling out contact forms, booking appointments, and signing up for our newsletter.
That said, we’re in the process of refining it. We’re running a UX session this week to improve the experience, making it even easier for visitors to understand what we do and how we can help.
Our service offerings have expanded, and we want to make sure we’re positioning everything clearly. The website is an ongoing project, but it’s an essential part of our marketing strategy.
Rick: That makes a lot of sense.
Based on your experience, what makes a high-converting website? Any tools or strategies you’d recommend?
Anita: For us, it’s all about keeping it simple.
Make the journey easy—ensure visitors can find what they need without frustration. We’re focused on clarity and compelling messaging, making sure people can reach us quickly and get the right information without jumping through hoops.
Rick: Simple advice, but powerful.
Switching gears a bit, let’s talk about you as a leader. What does a typical day at Select Technology look like for you?
Anita: Every day is different!
We’re an SME, so my role is incredibly varied. Some days I’m running customer workshops, hosting webinars, working on the website UX, writing content, or managing social media and email campaigns.
We’re also investing in video case studies to showcase our work.
That variety is what I love about marketing—it keeps things interesting, and every project we complete has a real impact on the business.
Rick: That sounds like a great mix!
Now, onto the rapid-fire round. Quick, crisp answers only—ready?
Anita: Got it!
Rick: What’s the last book you read?
Anita: The Maiden by Kate Foster—a historical crime novel based on a real 17th-century murder case. Couldn’t put it down!
Rick: What’s the one thing your company is focused on most right now?
Anita: Visibility—sharing our expertise on AI and automation so businesses can make informed decisions.
Rick: If technology had no limits, what’s one thing you’d fix for your role as a marketer?
Anita: I’d love a perfect intent-tracking system—something that tells us exactly when a prospect is in-market so we can deliver the right message at the right time.
Rick: What’s one repetitive task you’d automate?
Anita: Email marketing—specifically, creating hyper-personalized campaigns that still feel human.
Rick: What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self as a marketer?
Anita: Get into tech sooner! It’s not as intimidating as it seems, and it’s an incredibly exciting field with real impact.
Rick: That’s great advice.
Anita, thank you so much for being on the show today. If listeners take away just one thing about Select Technology, what should it be?
Anita: We’re here to make technology easy. Whether you want to optimize, secure, or automate, we love helping businesses understand their tech and get the most out of it.
Rick: Sounds like the door is open for anyone who wants to chat.
Anita: Absolutely!
Rick: Thanks again, Anita. Hope to see you again soon!
Anita: Thank you so much—I really enjoyed it!
Rick: Take care, bye!
