Let’s talk about today’s guest. We have Trevor from Roboflow. How are you doing today, Trevor?

Trevor Lynn: I’m doing great. It’s good to be here.

Ernesto: It’s great to have you on. I’m curious, and I’m sure our listeners who are tuning in are wondering what Roboflow is all about, so let’s kick it off with that. Trevor, in your own words, can you tell us a little bit more?

Trevor: Sure. Roboflow is the easiest way to use computer vision in your applications or your business. The same way that people interact with chatbots or OpenAI—where you’re typing in text and getting text back—we aim to make the visual world programmable in the same way. You should be able to interact with visual data, understanding what’s in a room, who’s in a room, how many objects are present, or detecting anything in a video or image. We make all that possible and provide the tools for developers to build that on their own.

Ernesto: That’s awesome to hear. For our listeners tuning in, to better understand, what problems do you solve for clients?

Trevor: We’re a developer tools company. Developers, software engineers, and really any engineers use Roboflow to build custom vision AI applications. We offer open-source tools, software-as-a-service platforms, and developer tools. Users can add their data, help AI models understand it, and easily train a vision AI model with a click of a button. These models can be deployed wherever they’re needed—cameras, servers, applications, workflows, or mobile devices. We’re the tools that help people build their custom vision models.

Ernesto: Definitely. That’s awesome to hear. So then, is there a certain vertical or ideal ICP that you focus on?

Trevor: Absolutely. We serve a wide range—from hobbyists and small startups to large enterprises. Our core customers are in manufacturing, logistics, transportation, and freight. Vision AI is especially valuable for businesses operating in the physical world. Whether it’s automating quality inspections in manufacturing, tracking freight in logistics, or managing operations in transportation, our tools help save time, reduce errors, and improve processes.

Ernesto: Awesome to hear that. How would somebody find out about Roboflow? Is there a specific client acquisition channel?

Trevor: Marketing to developers has its own challenges, but people are people, and the key is genuinely helping them. We focus on high-quality content—guides, tutorials, and tools to enable developers to build what they want. YouTube has been a great channel for us, as many developers learn through video tutorials. We also leverage open-source software and community tools. It’s all about being genuinely helpful and driving users to our website, where they can start building with our free tier.

Ernesto: I like that you mentioned having developers on your marketing team. It’s a smart approach. Speaking of your website, what role does it play in client acquisition?

Trevor: The website is central to everything we do. All roads lead to the website, whether through content, SEO, or other channels. We emphasize showcasing our product with interactive demos and transparent pricing. Users can try the product for free, swipe a credit card for higher tiers, or go the enterprise route. The website also reflects feedback from our sales and customer success teams to ensure our messaging resonates.

Ernesto: Are there any tips or tools you’d recommend for website lead generation?

Trevor: Speed is crucial. A fast website improves user experience and boosts conversions. Beyond that, monitoring traffic sources and content performance is key. It’s important to keep producing high-performing content and improving as you go. Using tools like CMS platforms (we use Webflow) makes it easy for the team to update and manage the website without needing engineers.

Ernesto: Great advice! Let’s switch gears a bit and talk about you as a leader. What are some key tasks you focus on day-to-day?

Trevor: I focus on moving with urgency and intensity—pushing the team to ship projects quickly. We plan weekly sprints, set commitments, and publish a “ship list” to hold ourselves accountable. My priority is to focus on what works and double down on it while maintaining high standards. I also emphasize owning what we produce instead of relying on paid advertising, ensuring sustainable growth.

Ernesto: Sounds like a full plate! Let’s jump into our rapid-fire round. Ready?

Trevor: Absolutely.

Ernesto: What’s the last book you read?

Trevor: I just finished listening to the Elon Musk biography by Walter Isaacson. It’s a fascinating look into making big ideas a reality and the intensity required to do so.

Ernesto: If there were no boundaries in technology, what would you fix for your role as a marketer?

Trevor: I’d fix the data connection between the web and closed deals. Tracking all the touchpoints in a buyer’s journey and attributing success accurately is always a challenge.

Ernesto: Lastly, what advice would you give yourself if you were restarting your journey as a marketer?

Trevor: Lean into technical skills. Understanding tools and processes from the ground up helps you move faster and execute effectively without unnecessary roadblocks.

Ernesto: Great advice. Thanks, Trevor. Before we wrap up, if someone forgets everything about this interview, what’s the one thing they should remember about Roboflow?

Trevor: Vision AI—if you want computers to understand the visual world, Roboflow is the tool for you.

Ernesto: You heard it, folks! Check them out at roboflow.com. Trevor, thank you so much for joining us today. To our listeners, thanks for tuning in. Looking forward to our next episode at Pathmonk Presents.

Trevor: Thanks, Ernesto!
